Extension Education Center |
| |
| |
History : |
| |
Our center, previously located at Taipei
Continuing Education Center of National Chunghsing University, changed
its name to Extension Education Center following the founding of
the National Taipei University on February 2000. Despite the name
changed, the center is still the institution with the longest history
and highest achievements in night-time education among universities
in Taiwan, offering educational opportunities to a countless number
of promising, talented people in our country.
Our center has developed over the following four stages
:
|
| |
- Stage One
At first, the center offered classes to make-up school credits
from September 1955 to June 1961. The classes were started for
the alumni of former Public Administrative School that eventually
became the school we are today. Students who received passing
grades were granted undergraduate credits.
- Stage Two
The evening college stage started offering courses in September
1964 to June 1992. At this time, the government began promoting
continuing education to enable young working people to pursue
a university education at night and asked various universities
to set up 5-year evening college program for all women and men
who have completed their military service.
- Stage Three
The Ministry of Education began the second part of university
education phase in 1992. The Ministry created full-time faculty
positions for the instructors and expanded student enrollment
to high school graduates for 4-year programs. Later in 1993, the
government due to budgetary restraints could no longer offer full-time
faculty positions to instructors, so the second part of the university
education policy could not be implemented. As a result, the Ministry
of Education decided to transform the second part of university
education into extension education . During this time, our center
was developed into degree program education institution. In 1997
academic year , the center changed its name to extension education
department and began to limit enrollment to working youths who
have graduated for over one year and with no military obligation.
This revision had now been in effect for five years.

- Stage Four
Following the new establishment of the National Taipei University,
the extension education center has successfully offered classes
due to popular demands. We have also been offering graduate courses
since 2000. New educational programs have also been developed
for senior citizens and community residents in addition to degree
